Audition Opportunity: NZ Opera Chorus

Auditions have been announced for the 2014 Chapman Tripp New Zealand Opera Chorus. This is an outstanding opportunity for singers with classical training to get paid opera experience and work alongside internationally renowned directors, designers and singers. New Zealand Opera Chorus Audition Poster   NZ Opera Chorus Manager Glenn Meade gives some extra information about the chorus audition process:

For the audition you need to prepare one aria or classical piece and we have an official accompanist you are welcome to use; although we are also happy if you choose to bring your own accompanist.

The aria should be no more than three to four minutes long (so recits and repeats not required) and if you are using our accompanist it is imperative you provide a good clean copy of the aria for the pianist with all music clearly readable. If you are sellotaping these copies, can you please sellotape in three strips horizontally across the pages, rather than vertically down the join, as this makes it so much harder to page-turn.

If this is your first audition for NZ Opera, you would also be asked to do a small musicianship test involving one line of sight-singing, some ear tests and scales to establish your vocal range; however if you have been involved with us previously you would only be asked for your song choice.

The Auckland auditions are just over two months away – just enough time to start preparing your audition repertoire with your teacher. Experienced singers can also look forward to next year’s Emerging Artist auditions for New Zealand Opera, which generally take place in March/April.
